Stills is a disposable camera for iPhone. You load a roll of 12 or 27 frames and shoot it blind — no preview, no retakes, no deleting the bad ones — then develop it on your phone and find out what you actually caught.
Long
Stills is a disposable camera for iPhone, made by the independent studio Neurovia. It restores the one constraint that made disposable cameras worth carrying: you do not get to see the picture. A roll holds 12 or 27 frames and stays sealed until the last one is spent, at which point it develops on the phone — about a second a frame — through a single film process called Stills 400. There is no stock switcher, no feed, no followers and no algorithm. Photographs are written to the device and stay there. Stills is free.
Angles that are actually true
- Constraint as a feature. Every other camera app competes on how much you can do after the shutter. This one competes on how little.
- The film runs on the phone. Stills 400 is a pipeline — exposure, halation, tone, grain — not a lookup table over a JPEG, and the ordering is the difference. Written out in full.
- No feed, and no plan for one. There is nowhere in the app to broadcast a photograph. Friends are added by holding two phones together.
- Independent, very small, no funding. Made in the open over 2026 — the release notes are the record.
Two things we would rather you got right
It is not a filter app. Stills 400 is applied while the roll develops and cannot be switched, undone or previewed. Describing it as a filter is the one summary that misses what the thing is.
Shared Rolls is not in 1.0. Two people filling one roll together is built, but it is held for a later release rather than shipped half-working. We would rather that were reported accurately than generously, and we are not putting a version number on it.
